MY BRUSH WITH DEATH - PART 2

My Friday started ever so peaceful. I was out of the house once again very early with little to no sleep from the night before. I was very eager to start the weekend and attend a family wedding. Though I'm not a fan of Nigerian weddings, it was a distraction for me and I couldnt wait. I kept a low profile throughout the day and never knew this was the calm before the hurricane. I contemplated the idea of running back to London for a couple of months away from all my troubles but I remembered I had just got back to Lagos and had meetings back to back. I was so scared of being out of the house and even driving around Lagos. I just wanted to be alone.

At about 3pm, I received a call from a friend who figured everything wasn't right with me and invited me to the cinema to watch the new Marvel movie - Thor Ragnarok. I had been looking forward to the movie so I thought what's the worst that could happen. Afterall, I couldn't hide forever from my troubles. For once in over a week, I was excited again and couldn't wait to meet up with my friend to watch the movie. Only problem now was how to inform my dad I would be leaving work early and getting home late. Like typical African father, my dad believes nothing good happens after it gets dark. I remember when I moved back a few years ago and was being told by my dad that my curfew was 7pm...lol. He screamed at me for over year for always getting home late until he realised I was grown man.

My dad curiously through out all the issue surroundinh me kept a calm demeanor and never once screamed at me which was unusual. I thought, surely he was bottling this feelings and could explode at any moment on me. Especially as I was about to tell him of another late night out. He surprisingly agreed to the late night and asked me to call him when I got home that evening. I immediately jumped into my car and joined the traffic heading out. As a result of the incident that happened the day before I decided to use a different route. I did not need any problem at this point.

The traffic once again heading out work was so bad and I had to call my friend to adjust time and venue. I was using a hands free kit in my car in order not to get distracted whilst driving. At the same time a man asked for permission to cross the front of my car and I nodded for him to pass before I moved. I'd decided to pull out from behind the truck in front of me. The man had completely walked past and was away from my car as I put my foot on the pedal to move. My idea was to use the next lane which was freer to manoeuvre past the truck. The next event was something I never expected and once again made me realised all was not well with the universe around me.

The car jerk forward so much that the man that walked past was about to be on the bonnet of my car. I immediately stopped and stepped out of the car to apologize to the man and told him the car was faulty. Though I knew well my car wasnt faulty, I had to come up with a reason why I would want to hit the man going that fast. One would have thought it was on purpose but I had barely put my foot on the pedal. I once again was scared and didn't know what was going on. Something wasn't right and I needed to be careful.

Stay tuned...
